That little voice inside you

If you're new here, you may want to get my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! I couldn't do this without the help of my commenters!

I did my first session of week 03 of C25K today. This involves running for three minutes at two points. I completed it successfully (Yay me!), but I did find that the little voice inside me was saying “I can’t do this! Give up!”

Luckily for me, I have learnt to ignore that little voice and carry on. I think a large part of the journey to fitness is not so much training the body, but is rather changing the mind to break out of its negative patterns. I think that is just as hard, if not harder, than changing the body.

  1. The little voice inside you always tells you that you can’t do this. You are not going to make it or you are not good enough etc etc…

Learning to ignore it on one aspect of your life is just a start I guess :)

You can do anything you want to do. Anything.

  2. You got it. Ignoring or at least controlling that little voice is so important. People generally aren’t out of shape because they can’t move, its because they tell themselves they can’t or don’t want to. It is such a mental game.

Great job getting past your own little voice!

  4. Every diet works, every exercise programme works, its just us that are not willing to do THE work. When we make the decision - anything is possible! I know you can do it, you are such an inspiration.

  5. Hi Andrew,

Thanks for suggesting the C25K program. I’m going to check out the website now and see if it helps me get to my fitness goal faster!

Good luck with your running, Andrew!

  6. Good for you!

I found your blog through the CR forums. I just completed W3D1 of C25K tonight…and I must say, I’m thinking of either slowing down my pace considerably or maybe even repeating Week 2. The first 3-minute run wasn’t terrible, but I could only complete 2.5 minutes of the second cycle. That “little voice” in my head wasn’t just saying I couldn’t do it…it was saying, “If you continue, you are going to puke, pass out, or both!”

    Yikes. I will press on.

Keep up the good work! I will check in again.

  7. Ignore that little voice Lori!

Thanks for visiting my blog and for your encouraging words.

I’m in week 04 now and look back fondly on ‘only’ 3 minute runs. It’s the 5 minuters that are giving me trouble. :)
