C25K Week 04 Completed

The value of having a blog really came home to me today. I was on the treadmill doing my last run of Week 04 of C25K and I really wanted to give up. But, I just couldn’t face reporting failure to my loyal readers. So I stuck it out and managed to finish. I almost did a Marshmallow and woohooed. Thankfully I resisted the urge.

I think I made a mistake in doing my run after my weights workout today. I did a personal best (and achieved one of my goals) on the squat in that I managed to squat (ass to grass) 100kgs (220 pounds). However, I think this made my legs quite tired so the run was a lot harder than usual. But, having said that, I completed the run so it’s all good.

I also managed to do 20 pushups in a row and then followed it up by doing 30 more (3 sets of 10 not 30 in a row) so I am getting closer to my goal of 25 in a row. Which is great.

Overall, I’m rather happy with my progress. I’m getting fitter and am feeling great. :)

Maaaaaaaaan you totally should’ve woohooed :-P

Congratulations! Undoubtedly your run would’ve felt way more difficult for doing it after your weights, though I think recent research has proven that it might be more beneficial to do your weights first (build up lactic acid) and then your cardio after (remove the lactic acid). It doesn’t make it easy though, and you are a true champ for chugging on!

Thanks Marshmallow. I might have to start doing runs in the morning and weights in the afternoon. We will see how the next few runs go.

I will chime in with the rest and say good job. Whatever you do second will always get less of your energy and not be quite as good. Anyway, glad you did well and are feeling good!

I’ve heard that you can get more fat burning by doing cardio AFTER weights… though I must admit, I’m not sure I could muster up the energy to do that right now. Still, it’s an avenue I may explore.

Anyway, good going on following through!

Cynthia – I’ve heard the same; I think partially it’s due to some of the lactic acid build up and secondly, because weight training has you burning more calories for longer after your weights workout has completed. (In Body Pump, you can burn only around 200 calories in a class, but continue to burn at a higher rate for 5-6 hours afterwards)

Hmm…I’ve heard that you should do weights before cardio because otherwise you will have no glycogen left in your muscles if you do cardio first which means you won’t be able to lift the weights. :)

I just do what I can when I can. :)
