Weigh in

If you're new here, you may want to get my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! I couldn't do this without the help of my commenters!

Today I weighed in at 102.1 kg (225.1 pounds) which is down .7 kg (1.5 pounds) from last week. I’m happy that I had a loss so all is good. I was a little worried that I might show a gain as I overindulged a bit this weekend.

Most weekends I have a treat of some form, but this weekend I had a piece of chocolate cake (and it was good!) and a mocha on Saturday morning with my wife and then a Devonshire tea (scones and a coffee) at One Tree Hill with my wife and some of my friends. Normally that would be fine but after Round the Bays yesterday there was a free bbq and I was starving so I had 4 sandwiches instead of 2. I should have planned ahead and brought my own food but hey, I’m human.

I weigh in every day and it’s been interesting to see some large swings this week. You can see my daily graph here. I’ve also noticed that I’ve started to get really hungry on the days that I’m running. This never used to happen so I guess my body wants more energy.

I’ve got quite a bit on this week. I’m starting the One Hour Runner program on Tuesday. I’ve got a fitness assessment coming up. And I’m off to Christchurch for my brother’s wedding.

  1. Do you carb load before you run?

You get a better run in (and you’re not as hungry afterwards) if you have a high carb dinner the day before you do a run.

  2. I don’t think I’m running far enough to worry about carb loading to be honest. Although I did buy a nice loaf of wholegrain bread with the idea of having an extra sandwich on the days I run. Although that might just be me rationalising eating bread . ;)

  3. Eat the sandwich — :) You’re really doing it - exercising regularly - the sandwich is probably good for the reconstruction of your body from the natural damage that occurs when you exercise.

There ya have it - my vote has been cast.

  4. I’m with Metroknow - Eat the sandwich!

  5. Hahaha…you guys rock. I’ll eat the sandwich.

  6. Good boy.

  7. Given all the exercise you’re getting, I’m thinking your calorie bank had plenty of room for a few splurges. Especially after yesterday’s activities (that looked like so much fun!)

Now, here in Memphis, TN, when we talk about bbq sandwiches, it means chopped smoked pork on a bun with coleslaw and bbq sauce. What constitutes a bbq sandwich in your corner of the world?

Oh, and today was my Cake Day (strawberry), too!

  8. BBQ sandwiches are not as much fun since I became a vegetarian. My sandwiches had an egg, some onion, some capsicum and a large mushoom drowned in tomato sauce and mustard. And it was goooooood.

    Hmm…strawberry cake. :)

  9. “…but hey, I’m human.”

I’m making this my new motto! :)

Congrats on a great week — treats and all.

  10. I know you’re a man, but I read an interesting article in Women’s Health about how to get the best energy and which foods to eat. Apparently combining protein and carbs is the best way to fuel exercise while minimising hunger. Maybe you could try some protein shakes or something to curb the hunger? (I always think people who drink protein shakes are so hard core…!)

WD on the weight loss, your traineo stats on the bar on the side are looking solid!

  11. Actually, WundaLucy brings up an interesting points - with your vegetarianism, where do you get your protein from?

  12. Justtoofat: Feel free! It’s a great slogan. ;)

Wundalucy: I already drink them! The hunger is not overwhelming - I just know I’m hungry which is not normally the case.

Marshmallow: I eat quite a lot of eggs and protein powder. I also have nuts etc. in my food. I used to eat a lot of lentils and beans but I just don’t like them that much so am having a break from them.

  13. Ah good. I use protein powder too - have it with my breakfast in the morning (vanilla protein porridge, breakfast of champions).

  14. You mean a permenant break from the lentils and beans? At least a long break.

Just eat the sandwish, it’s already wholegrain… just eat it, so there’s less “I’m huuuungrrrry” in the house, eh. One of us doing that is bad enough, let alone two!

  15. Sorry I haven’t been around lately… I guess your feed changed, so my reader wasn’t picking up any new posts. And me being busy, I didn’t have a chance to visit your site until now.

Congrats on another great loss! And running 5K! And getting to just the “overweight” point on your BMI!

It’s true, as your exercise level increases, you may find you need more calories! Don’t worry too much about an occasional splurge unless you aren’t seeing progress. BTW, your veggie BBQ sandwich sounded delicious to me!

    Your progress is just awesome!

  16. Thanks Cynthia. I’ll have to admit it tasted delicious too!

  17. You shouldn’t really need to worry about carb loading until you get over an hour of exercise.

I love the hunger pangs. Once upon a time, I never got them, I just ate all the time. Now, it’s almost a personal badge of honor. Speaking of that, it’s lunch time here in the eastern US — time to eat!

  18. That’s what I figured Jeff. Enjoy your lunch!
