One hour runner week 03 completed

I had a good run on the treadmill (rain again) this morning. I ran for 30 minutes and did 5.2 km. This means I’ve finished week 03 of the One Hour Runner program.
Weeks 1-3 has just involved running 30 minutes for three days a week. Week 4 is where you start to add a bit more time. For this week I’ll have to run 30 minutes, 29 minutes, and then 35 minutes. I’ve decided to make Sunday the day for doing the first run of the week as that is always a 30 minute run and my 5K events are on Sundays. This way I can double up a 5K and a 30 minute run.
Speaking of 5K events: One of my friends, the Honorable Rick (his real title too), has bit the bullet and decided to join me at the next Run Auckland 5K race which is on the 20th of April. I think it will be great to have a friend running in an event and I hope to leave him in my dust!
The Run Auckland series has got 6 events so I’ve decided that I will do the 5K runs at the first 5 and celebrate the end of the series by doing a 10K for the final one. That gives me a good goal to work towards. The last one is on the 13th of July so I should be able to run 10K by then. If not then I will run as far as I can, walk as far as I can and then crawl the rest of the way!

That’s great that you’ll have a friend to run with.
No doubt you’ll be ready to go for that 10k. Plenty of time.
Hhehehehe, I saw the date of the second race and immediately went OH HELL NO, no way was I doing a race on my birthday, especially after a day of cheesecake, mousse, Lonestar and Singstar - so I’ll only be doing the Western Springs race. (though I doubt I’ll be running with you - I’m going to get as far away from you as I can, I don’t want to be anywhere near you, if I’m to retain any form of self esteem in your wake!)
As far as running goes - I can’t wait to get back into it, I’ve missed it.
I hope so Jeff. All going well it should be ok. I think it’s good to have a goal that will challenge me.
Marshmallow: Heh! It sounds like you’ll need a run after all that!
I don’t think you’ll be comparing yourself to me. Once you are there it’s all about running your own race.
I thought the idea of running with friends is you all run together?
That’s alright, I think I will be joining you guys in May…. or maybe I should just take Emma and your mum and do our exercises in shopping mall instead
Marshmallow: I remember something, one of my gf once ran together with a colleague in a fun run. So they said they will just run together to keep each other company. In the last bit, out of the blue, he sprinted off and beat her on the official record. 2-3 years later, she’s still sore about it!
I think probably just run on your own, more fun
Wow this is very exciting - and inspiring. I love the idea of staggering your races between a handful of 5Ks and then rewarding yourself with a 10k. Great idea.
My wife and I ran our first 10k race together a few years back and it was great fun. She of course, at 104 lbs and naturally fit had an easier time of it than I, but neither one of us was running to “win” — we were spending time together having a blast, being inspired by the thousands of others out doing the same thing. That spirit (rather than one of competition) made it one of our favorite memories together in recent years.

You will rock that 10K…no walking!
Metroknow - It really helps to keep me motivated having these events.
Chief Wahoo - Thanks for the vote of confidence!
I’ve got the feeling you’ll be running the whole 10K too! I’m pretty sure you won’t be crawling!
