Five Questions and Answers

If you're new here, you may want to get my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! I couldn't do this without the help of my commenters!

I’ve been tagged by Jeff to answer 5 questions:

1. How would you describe your running 10 years ago?

My gut instinct was to say non-existent and after much reflection I realised that my gut instinct was right. :)  I’ve only been running since January this year and I’m really sad I’ve been missing out all my life!

2. What is your best and worst run/race experience?

My best experience was my very first race as I was just so amazed and happy to be able to do it.  My 4th race was also very special as I ran it with my dad. My worst so far was pretty good too in many respects but I (and pretty much all the other runners) took a wrong turn on the track and did a lot more distance than we were supposed to.

3. Why do you run?

Cos I can!  I started running because I thought I couldn’t and now I run because I can’t stop.  I love it. :)

4. What is the best or worst piece of advice you’ve been given about running?

The best advice I received was to slow down.  When I started I thought that to improve I had to set a new PR each training session.  Thankfully my readers quickly pointed out that I was setting myself up for injury.

The worst was to do a full marathon.  I’ve taken the first but haven’t quite accepted the second yet…but I’m leaning towards it.

5. Tell us something surprising about yourself that not many people know.

Err…I love musicals?  Always have, always will.

In other news, the weather was crap today so I ran on the treadmill in the gym.  I ran for 30 minutes, did 30 minutess on the bike and 30 minutess on the elliptical.  And it was good. :)

  7. Dear Andrew,

Just wanted to let you know that I have just quoted you in my latest blog, basically quoting some of the best comments from my readers.

Your comment of 26 May 2008 now appears in my latest blog today:

    http://goodbyetoallfat.blogspot.com/2008/06/what-my-readers-say.html

If you object to me using your comment in this self-publicising way, just let me know, either in a comment or e-mail and I will remove yours and leave the others.

    Thanks + best wishes,
    Sharon

P.S. I looked around your site to see if I could find an e-mail addy for you and didn’t find one (go on tell me I’m as myopic as a mole, then!) but did come across your “before” picture in the “About Andrew” section — I am very impressed !!!!!!

  8. Andrew,
I enjoyed reading your answers. Your progress this year has been phenomenal and should be an inspiration to anyone. I wouldn’t relish trying to compete with you in a 5K right now. :-)

I’m a little sore from Day 1 of the pushups, looking forward to Day 2 today. I’m sort of wondering when to fit in the second exhaustion test after Week 2. I don’t know if you’ve looked ahead, but the plan doesn’t seem to have any rest built in for that. We’ll see how things go - if I’m struggling I may take an extra week to acclimate to 3x per week pushups.

I’m going to just keep doing a day of rest between them. It will mean my schedule looks a bit funny after a while but thems the breaks.
