Weigh-in: Up and at ‘em!

Well, for the first time in a loooong time I recorded a gain this week:

Having said that I’m not surprised as I haven’t exercised since last Thursday and I’ve been indulging in some comfort food. I think this statistic would have been a lot worse if it wasn’t for the fact that we have a no junk food policy in our household now. This means I had no steady supply of chips or cookies as there were none in the pantry much to my disgust. I did manage to find some peanuts and a plethora of bread. :)

Last Friday morning I saw a record low on the scale and now that I’m back on the straight and narrow (with the odd windy bit thrown in for sanity) I fully expect to see those record lows again. This will not be the start of a major relapse. Which goes to show how far I’ve come in a way. When I got sick in the past it would start a spiral of eating that would not stop. Those days are gone.

My surgery went very well but I’m definitely not up for exercise yet. The weekend has been a progression from bed, couch, computer and repeat. I’m going a little stir crazy so I’m heading in to work today. I’ll probably regret it later but I live 7 minutes away from work so if I need to I can go home very easily.

I spent a lot of my downtime reading books on half marathon training and I have to admit I’ve been getting a bit twitchy about not being able to run. But it’s better to rest and recover properly first. I’ve told myself no running until Friday but I keep thinkingmaybe tomorrow…

  1. Don’t push yourself unless you’re sure you’re ready - one day’s running is not worth the rest of the week laid out and useless!

For what it’s worth, the few times I’ve had a few days off the gym it does tend to result in a gain - but then as soon as I get back in the gym it flies off and I’m quickly even less than before.

Tis good to give the body a chance to rest and keep your metabolism on its toes!

Thanks for the advice. I figure it’s probably good for me to have a rest week as well. :)

  2. Oh yes, we must eliminate the pink blob from your pretty chart! :) So glad you’re recuperating nicely, and I hope to see the trend continue.

  3. Yeah - give it time, let yourself recover. There will be plenty of time to get back on the exercise wagon - no sense in hurting yourself further and making things worse!

  4. 0.34 of a Kg is not even one whole pound — ignore it, it will come straight back off once you are up and running again !!

    One of your lines:

“When I got sick in the past it would start a spiral of eating that would not stop”

Sounds so like me in the past. Back in January this year I was a lot lighter than I am at the mo but I got an infection, a very bad, long lasting viral infection. Instead of thinking “oh dear, I can’t exercise I should eat less for a while” I succumbed to comfort eating and feeling fed up.

However, THIS time (I now have a back/neck problem that I need to get fixed which has messed up my exercise plans all week) I have been eating moderately to compensate for the fact that I can’t exercise !!

Lessons learned and all that. ;-)

Best wishes for a speedy recovery,
    Sharon

  6. As Sharon said, a blip not even enough to be concerned about, and I can tell from your post that you’re not really. Glad you seem to be recovering well.

  8. Just wanted to pop in and say that, even if you had a minor setback this week, a total loss of 103 pounds is very, very impressive. Even moreso given that it’s taken you just 5.5 months. Nice work!

The weightloss has taken me quite a lot longer than that. I’ve just been running since the middle of January.

Gotcha. I misunderstood the “Achieve Goal in 164 Days” line in Traineo.

  10. It’s just great that you feel the way you do about exercise. I have no doubt we’ll see you back in the green before the week is out.
