A long run between the showers

It’s been raining forever in Auckland. At least it feels like it. I think we’ve had rain for the last 5 weekends in a row so it’s been a little frustrating. I woke up to hear rain crashing down and it was rather annoying. I decided I was going to go for my run even if it was raining and so went and got changed into my running gear. What do you know? The rain stopped and I got in a beautiful run. As soon as I got home the rain started again! So I think today’s run was meant to be.
I bought a new fuel belt during the week as the one I had has just the one big water bottle and that bangs against my hip as I run. For a shortish run it doesn’t bother me but I found that on the longer runs it becomes very annoying and distracting. This new one has 4 little bottles and it’s fantastic. I didn’t notice it at all during the run today except when I needed some water.
I think today’s run was my longest run by a small margin. I did the same route as my previous longest run but started running slightly earlier than last time.
Some stats from my run:
Time 1:42:30
Distance 16.23 km
Calories burned: 1831 cal
Average Heart Rate: 146 bpm
It was a long slow run, just like it was meant to be. Kilometers 8-14 were rather tough as I was running into a very strong headwind but I just kept my head down and plodded along. I thought it was a personal victory that I kept going even though the circumstances weren’t ideal.
Yesterday I finished week 04 of the 100 pushups program with 30, 22, 22, 20 and 30 (min 29) pushups. I’ll do my exhaustion test tomorrow. Last time round I got up to 30 and since then I’ve done 36 in one of my max sets so I’m thinking I should be able to get at least 40. I need 40 to stay in column 3 so I’ll aim for that.
I also did day 01 of week 02 of my abs program.
I’ve had a very good weekend in terms of eating and exercise which is rather pleasing. A lot of the times weekends seem to be occasions for overindulgence and slothfulness. Well not this weekend. :)

ah man that sounds like an awesome run. I’m feeling so inspired about running right now. Some day I’ll be up to the distances that you are running. Nice to know another runner in NZ. You inspire me, keep up the great blogging and running!

Great workout. Yeah, as I said (I think) to you before Fuel Belts are fantastic. I may have also mentioned this, but if you throw the filled bottles in the freezer 30 minutes or so before you go it keeps them cooler a lot, lot longer. It might not be an issue with the weather for you right now but even back in the UK after 20 minutes being up against my body the bottles got quite warm, and I find when that happens they taste more plasticy, which is never pleasant.
What I need - and soon, now I’m in Mississippi - is a decent running cap that I can soak and freeze before I set off. I think it’ll make an enormous difference.

Any chance you could send us the rain. We need the rain badly here in New Jersey of USA. We are having sort of a drought. It hasn’t rain very much. It did rain for about 10 minutes yesterday but not enough. Looks like the course you ran is quite beautiful.
