50/50: Secrets I Learned Running 50 Marathons in 50 Days
If you're new here, you may want to get my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! I couldn't do this without the help of my commenters!
I managed to win a copy of 50/50: Secrets I Learned Running 50 Marathons in 50 Days by Dean Karanazes from Steve over at www.runbulldogrun.com. Basically it’s the story of how Dean ran 50 marathons in 50 days! I can’t imagine doing that much running but he did.
It arrived in the mail this week and I’ve just started reading it. I can tell it’s going to be a good read already as this quote is on page 7:
Running is much more than a good way to lose weight. It’s a cure for depression and a potential path to personal growth and self-fulfillment. It’s my recipe for making this world a more harmonious home to the human species.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m hoping to be able to finish the rest of the book over the weekend.
In other news I did a 10K run this morning and everything was fine. So I guess my weird experience yesterday was just that - a weird experience.

Glad today was better!
I just saw that book and am intrigued. I need to read it!
I’m up to briskly walking about a 10k a day, and I have to say, it’s got my mood and energy up, up, up! (Doing a lazy man’s triathlon — ironman distances in about a month, so swimming 2.5 miles and biking 112 miles is next!)

Just had to follow up — this is really a great book on lots of levels — not just for marathoners. Though, by the end, non-marathoners just might change their mind and commit to one
I loved the chapter on motivation and I just posted about the section on his observations about people who’ve used running to lose a bunch of weight. Good stuff!

50 MARATHONS IN 50 DAYS?? Ohh my God. He needs to get some kind of an award of something. That is absolutely excellent.
Congrats to you mate. Hope you never get to see that ‘weird run’ again.

50 in 50 days? I may get 50 blocks in 50 days. I have tried running a little more lately, but still not sold on it.

Glad to hear you are back on your game. I think I’m going to shoot for 10K this week as well - of course, that will be a personal best - nowhere near 23K - but it is progress! Thank you for the inspiration!

I met Dean right after he did his 50 in 50. He stayed overnight in the campground where I work; he was running home (to CA from NY.) Unbelieveably, at the time I hadn’t even heard of him. Here’s the story: http://tinyurl.com/4ecddh
He was very friendly and gracious. Even though I’d been hiding under a rock.
