A run in the wind & some before and after pics

If you're new here, you may want to get my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! I couldn't do this without the help of my commenters!

My wife managed to twist her neck and hurt it rather badly while looking after our little girl in the middle of the night so I spent a good part of the day taking her to doctors, massage and acupuncture.

When we got home I decided that I had better get my run in before it got dark so I headed out in the late afternoon.  I wanted to do a nice and easy 10K run so I headed out towards Tamaki Drive.  I did a 10K run but it wasn’t particularly easy.  I think I was a bit dehydrated as I hadn’t drunk anything since about 10am and there was quite a strong wind blowing so the running was rather hard.  Having said that I still managed to run the whole way and didn’t stop at the ice cream shop that I passed twice!

One of my friends, Stephen, had his birthday yesterday and held a party in the evening.  My wife and I went along and had a great time.  I can’t remember any other evening events that we have actually gone to during the week since our daughter was born.  Considering she is 15 months old tomorrow - it’s been a while!

I had a single slice of pizza, some fries with aoli and an espressotini and a small piece of birthday cake.  They were all good and, to top it off, I had a record low (scale weight) on my weigh in this morning so it looks like you can have your cake (in moderation) and eat it!

Here’s a photo that he took of me last night:

A bit different from this one:

  1. Mate, those photos are huge! You are a different person - well, I guess you’re the same person but, well, you know. It’s funny how appearances give impressions. The “after” photo certainly paints a different picture and one I am sure you’d be happy with.

  4. Your before and after pics are AMAZING !!

I also wear glasses and often feel fat and frumpy with glasses …. but glasses can be very attractive on a slim and fit person — as your pictures prove!

Thanks *sooooooo* much for the motivation !!!!!

    Best wishes,

  6. Yep - a new pair of glasses can do wonders for your appearance. :p

seriously, I’m always amazed at how much a person’s *personality* appears to change when they lose (or gain) a ton of weight. It’s more than just the way you *look*.

  7. Very very impressive. That has got to make you feel great.

Having cake in moderation is a good thing, you have got to enjoy life as well, and as you have learned as I have, if you say “never” to everything you like that is when you end up in a binge.

    Keep up the great work!

  10. Don’t you love those runs that seem to be hard for no particular reason? I’ve been having some of those as I try to get back into the swing of things with being off for a bit with the cold.

I also hate it when its really windy! That just adds to the difficulty sometimes!

Love the before and after pics! You’ve come sooooo far!

  25. What fabulous inspiration! You are looking GREAT! Hope your wife feels better soon.

I started week 4 of the C25K program while on vacation in Boston! It was great running in a new environment with different sights to see.

I am heading to France and Spain on Monday. My goal is to wrap up week 4 and 5 and possibly start on week 6 while there. I do plan on enjoying the food, though.
