I just found your blog and have been snooping around. Well done!! You have achieved so much. The scenery around Auckland is spectacular and certainly helps with getting going.

I walk. (I also have nice scenery - Ballina, Byron Bay)

Sometimes I walk with my husband (faster) and sometimes alone (more girly paced, but still fairly quick and puffy). We both go to the gym, but rarely together, due to the way our day is structured. I think the key is to do it for yourself and keep at it, whether you get the loved one's company or not.

Cardio is definitely the way to go to tone up and lose the fat. I walk 6 days a week and do resistance on 3 of those days as well with one day off. I'm healthy and fit and look and feel better than I ever have. (I am 46 and NEVER been this fit in my life)

I am very happy for your progress and love the fact you chart your results to be accurate.

I hope to see this trend take effect in more places, as you have concrete data points to learn from. Normally, it is easier for individuals to shrug off or ignore slight gains or inconsistencies, but a chart like this is a direct reminder to the individual of the actions they took, and the results that came of them. It is hard to not succeed when there is a one-to-one connection with the effects of one's effort. It makes the positive effects show up more quickly.

Hi Andrew,
I have been following your site for a while and found your training technique interesting where you have kept your heart rate below 146. Lately I have been doing a lot of reading regarding how to make your body a more efficient runner, and they all seem to advocate a lot of interval training, hill training etc, in order to push your body by getting the heart rate up and therefore become better at using different fuel sources. I do find this can also really fatigue you. How have you found your method and how well do you recover from your runs?
I hope you don't mind me asking this:)

Regards,
Gillian

I always find a good loss after I go back to eating healthy after the Christmas period too. Congrats on the loss!

And I wish I could get my boyfriend to run with me, but then again, sometimes I do enjoy the solace of running alone!

Happy New Year, Andrew!
It's good to hear that things are going well for you. I think that the scenery you have for your runs is amazing! The fast that you're able to spend the time with your wife on the runs is awesome.
Keep up the great work and hope to keep hearing from you!

I've just found your website, you're doing so brilliantly! How lovely to workout with your wife. Unfortunately now we have a child we're unable to do that as someone needs to be at home although it is nice to go out as a family if we can.

When I first started my current 5 1/2 year spate of running, my wife and I walked then ran together. I ended up having knee surgery and she had back issues at about the same time and we had to quit for awhile. I got back faster than she did and we really have run together since. I do miss that time together.
