Doubling up

My wife and I normally head into work at about 7ish but there was a scheduled power outage in her building today so she couldn’t start until 9.  As such, we decided it would be nice to get a morning run in.

We headed off to the Auckland Domain and did 3 and a bit laps of the mile circuit there to do a 5K run in 32:32.

It was a really nice way to start the day.  I even have some pictures:

I think I need some black shoes to match my black clothes.

It was such a nice day that I decided to run home as well.  Of course it was stinking hot and I overdid it.  The first 5K were great so I decided to take the longer loop home.  The next 3K were fine.  The next 1.5K were up steepish hills in the heat with no water and my pace slowed to a walk.  The last 2K were fine again as they were downhillish.  An extra 11.5km to bring my total for the day up to 16.5K.

I really love being physically able to run on a whim.  It’s not really something I ever thought I’d be able to do and now I can.  It’s brillo!

Sounds like fun Andrew. You are right, it is fun to be able to run on a whim. It is really fun when you can run up steepish hills on a whim…. or would that be a whimish? :)

It is very strange to here you say it is so hot.

Keep up the good work, you are looking great!

It’s very cool that you can go for a run with your wife. I’ve found that exercising with my wife is good for our relationship. Particularly running. It’s a great time to talk and (in your case) enjoy the beautiful scenery. Great pics.

It’s nice that you and your wife both like to run, and run together.

And running extra distance, just because — that’s got to feel pretty good.

Nice run on a whim! Great work!

Oh and I could not agree with TB anymore. it is 16 right this second and is getting colder. Oh and consistent 20 mile per hour winds.

Other than that its great here.

You say “I really love being physically able to run on a whim.” but I have another question for you that I think might spur an interesting future post. It is “Do you ever forget what the old you was like?”. For me it is now hard to remember what it was like not to be able to do the things I now can.

    Andrew, you are lookin’ goooooooooood!

Seriously, if I bumped into you running in the street, I’d think you were a seasoned athlete that had been training most of his life :)

Gosh, I wish it was that nice outside where I live. You look great to. And I have to give an answer to AJH’s quesiton about forgetting. I do sometimes. Especially when I am in a long run or marathon and I think it is hard, then bam. I realize I am 130 lbs lighter and laugh because riding a bike for 15 minutes felt harder than running a marathon. I would like to see you take on that one in a post Andrew.

    Great job

I assume that you’re wife is the photographer here, but it would be great to see her running, too!
