A long run and a nice day

My daughter was awake from 3:30 AM – 4:30 AM and so when my alarm went off at 5 AM I gave some serious consideration to just turning it off and going back to sleep. Fortunately I didn’t. I got up and got ready for my long run.

I’m still not 100% with regard to my lungs. It’s rather annoying. Whenever I get sick it always hits my lungs and I take forever and a day to get full lung capacity back. To make matters worse I forgot to take my prerun puff of my asthma medication (I only use it when I’m sick) and so I felt a bit short of breath for most of the run.

Having said that I did 20.5K in about 2 and a quarter hours. It was a good run along my favourite coastal route.

For some reason there were a lot more runners out and about than is normally the case.  The YMCA training groups were out in force.  I passed about 6 groups (heading the other way – I’m not that fast!).  I think they must be training for the Rotorua Marathon as that is not too far away.

My cousin and her family emigrated to NZ last week so they came and visited us today.  We had a great day showing them some of Auckland’s nicer parks and whatnot.  It’s really nice to have some more family in Auckland.

It’s 3 weeks today to my next half marathon.  I must admit I’m really looking forward to it as 80% of the route is my normal running loop.  Coincidentally my parents are coming to visit that weekend so my dad has said he is keen to do the half marathon as well.  It was nice having him there for my first one and it will be great that he is there for my second one.  He’s hoping to break 2 hours for the first time and I’m thinking he should be able to do it.

In other news I had a battle with a packet of cookies this evening and I’m afraid they won.  Such is life I guess.

You are doing such a great job Andrew with your running. 20k in a morning fantastic.

I am hoping I can soon get motivated to get back into my running. I have a lot of events locally I want to enter so hopefully these will be motivation enough.

Hope your lungs are feeling better soon

Good Luck on the 22nd! Hopefully you’ll be feeling 100% by then.
It is very cool that your Dad is looking to doing the half with you, also. It is my hope that when I go Goofy next year, that my wife will run the half with me and we will run together.
As far as the battle with the cookies, I have a battle with raw bags of chocolate chips. They win very often!
    Happy Running!

You’re MUCH better than I am at running in the morning. I would have hit the button, I think… I remember the days of 3 am crying kids all too well.

That’s pretty good work for a person still not feeling 100 % better. What a great job well done. I still can’t imagine running for that long., then again i looked at your route that you run and it looks real scenic. I guess if I lived in a place with that in my backyard I’d enjoy running a lot more than I do now. Still really not motivated enough to push myself that far. Hopefully that will come in time.
As much as I don’t want to and Go knows I’ll I’ll have the energy I think I have come to the conclusion, with a lot of help from you guys as well, that it will be a big NO to me having an energy drink to get me through my workouts. Thanks for your input.
have a great day and my best to you whe you do your half marathon.

Great Job! You are better than I. When that alarm goes off, sometimes I have no control over my fingers at that snooze button it hit like…….15 times lol. Keep it up and forget the guilt over the cookie

Great run. Nice to have your dad running with you, too.

I know how agressive those cookies can be. Maybe you should carry a bat around with you to beat them away!

Not to shabby for having a chest cold. Good to see that you got out there and ran over 2 hours. You should do well for your half marathon.
Another runner in the family? That’s great!

That’s ok. You’ll get those cookies the next time you battle. I think they are making the odd assault, all the while recognizing that the result of the entire war is no longer in question…

I am so envious when I see your run routes! Aside from the health benefits – it must be an awesome mood lifter to run in such a lovely place!

    You certainly inspire me!
