A tempo run home

I ran home after work yesterday. I decided to see if I could pick up the pace a bit and run part of my run at my target pace for my half marathon this Sunday. I’m pleased to report a modicum of success. I did about 7 of the 10K at my target pace and while it was reasonably uncomfortable I did not feel overextended. I’m hoping the adrenalin kicks in on Sunday otherwise it’s going to be a tough ask to maintain that pace for 21.1 km!

And for the record, I did not slow down deliberately when running past all the pretty girls sunbathing on the beach. I was feeling fatigued in that section. Honestly. And I forgot my camera. Sorry!

When I got home I had a phonecall from my wife…no car keys…so I had to head back to work with the spare key.  Fortunately a family member loaned me their car otherwise it would have meant a run back to work!

  1. That’s awesome! I’ve run home from work twice now and love it! I hope to do it at least once a week if things work out.

    Good luck on the race!

  2. Should you really be doing a tempo run this close to the race? It’s called tapering for a reason :)

Anyways, best of luck with the half…try to make sure you don’t start off too fast and blow up. As you probably already know, aim for negative splits…it’s a lot easier to push harder when you know you’re on the homeward stretch.

  7. Taking your camera and taking pictures of girls at the beach can get you in trouble you know! It wasn’t one of those nude beaches was it? :-)

  11. Andrew you are going to be fine for your race next week. Besides my weekly speed intervals. Everytime I would try to run fast for a long period of time during training. I would “poop out!”
When race time comes everything changes, you are prepared mentally and physically.
It’s just tells that frame of mind is different when training and “real racing.”

  12. Andrew, you might find this forum topic interesting (in relation to your low HR training). I’ve actually linked to the fourth page…have a look at EnduranceUK.com’s post…very interesting.
