Man, sorry to hear about the cold. Hopefully the forced rest will mean you will have a terrific marathon!

In hindsight yes Kate is quite correct. Training on hills and then going to total flat is using different muscles. Repitition can be an issue.

The flat might seem comparitively easier though - maybe it is more a mental thing?

Just quietly I also think you have a 4:30 in the bag :)

I think you've got 4:30 in the bag. I have to disagree with Aaron in part though- if all your training has been hilly, your legs could suffer in Chch, as it's more repetitive.

Good luck for the taper!

Hey dude... its imperative that you rest and drink plenty of fluid. Sometimes doing a lot of running can suppress your immune system. The key is to get a lot of rest and you will be ready to kick butt big time for your first marathon. You will do phenomenal.

I understand Christchurch is a very flat course. With all the hills in your training program the legs should hold up pretty well.

Think of the cold as a mixed blessing - getting a good amount of rest as part of the taper.

It's getting close! Hopefully you'll kick it completely soon... btw, I saw Auckland on a list of Top 10 best places to live in the World. It ranked #4. Must be an amazing place to jog and train for the marathon!

Good luck:)

Good job getting out there - I hate getting sick, but I really think getting out there for a run helps clear things up when it is just a cold.

Good luck with your upcoming marathon!

I doubt a few days off will make much difference in your training at this point. In fact, the rest will probably help you out.
