Damn you Steve Spiers

I’m doing the hundred pushups program again.  I’ve just done the intial test and all I could eek out was a measly 20 pushups.  Not too long ago I could do close to 50.  How quickly it disappears when you don’t practice!  I’ve started and restarted this program many a time and always pike out around week 4.  I’m not too fussed if I pike out again as even just getting to week 4 means I’m doing well over 100 pushups a session which is not too shabby and is definitely a lot more than I’m doing at the moment. :)

While I was checking out the program again I spotted the two hundred squats program so thought I would start that at the same time as I really think squats are awesome.  I did 41 in my initial test so we’ll see how I go.  I suspect I’ll get to 200 squats long before I get close to 100 pushups myself!

For those of you who don’t know Steve Speirs is the chap who started the 100 pushups challenge and got me hooked on them.  He also has a great running blog where his feats amaze and astound me.

My wife has reminded me that I actually have a 5K race this weekend so I’d best get cracking on the running as well!  Is it too soon after my marathon to think of a 5K PR?  Probably!  Anyway, my treadmill calls. :)

Good luck with the program this time round. I had to give that away after about three weeks due a carpal tunnel syndrome in my wrists.

I have been meaning to do the 100 pushups for quite some time. I couldn’t do it when Steve first came out with it because of my broken collar bone, but I no longer have an excuse. I did my first shot and did only 17……

Now that I see you doing it, it just might be the fire I needed to get busy…. maybe I will see if I can outlast you :) Na….. that won’t be possible…. will it? :)

Right behind the 100 pushups will be the 200 situps for me.

Heh…I’d put money on you lasting longer than me just on my past history. I really struggle to get past week 4.

yeah, I keep meaning to restart the pushups too – problem is that there is a huge leap from week 4 to 5 (from memory).

    *soon!*

Oh gosh.. I haven’t done any push ups in a while. The last time was probably a few months ago at 25. I think I can only do 5 right now. You are right, have to start all over.

That is so AWESOME that you will be doing the Auckland Marathon in 4 months. How cool is that?

    Hey Andrew,

It’s been a while! Thanks for getting back on board with the push-ups challenge. Coincidentally today is the one year anniversary of the hundredpushups.com web site, so it’s quite apt that you’re “having another go”.

Not sure if you’ve read about my 7 Weeks to 100 Push-Ups book that came out on June 1st, but if you’re interested, I can send you a copy some time soon. Consider it a small thank you for all the publicity you’ve given the 100 Push Ups….

    Good luck!

This is great! Give it another shot for sure. I completed the 100 push ups challenge in early January and have been less than good about keeping up with that exercise. That being said, I’ve done enough that whenever I do a set I’m OK with multiple sets of 35 so I guess I haven’t lost that much. I suspect that I could do 50 in a row, but not that much more at the moment. I never did manage to complete the 20 chin-ups challenge, and perhaps that’s what I should try given that this program also incorporates pushups. The squats program is new to me, though my injury prone knees ache at the thought of trying that at the beginning of the 16 weeks of training for my first marathon.

In short, good luck and I’ll be interested to follow along. You can do it!

As good as running is, doing strength exercise is also good for the body! I’ve progressed from counter pushups to kneeling pushups and I’m pretty thrilled about that! I don’t know that I’m ready to tackle either the full squats or pushup programs yet, but I at least do both exercises some of the time. And I’m noticing that it makes a difference.

So good job for starting again!

Good luck with that. I wrote about Steve on my other blog a while back. http://richmondeditor.com/2009/03/13/twee-twublicity-100-push-ups/ I’d like to do this, but just haven’t. One day I’ll be convinced. :-)
