First DNS

Well, I’ve got my first Did Not Start coming up in just under 2 hours.

Unfortunately I’ve been off work since Wednesday with the flu/a bad cold and as I’m still coughing up green stuff I don’t think I should be running my half marathon today.

I’m not too happy about it but there is no point in being silly and running a race today. My wife is doing the 6K option so I’m going to go along and cheer her from the comfort of the car.

Hope you are feeling better soon! Not the best sort of weather to be out and about in if you are sick.

Sorry to hear that you’re missing the race, but there’s something to be said for showing that you’re not obsessed. I know several people what will run a race, no matter their condition. I’ve seen them hurling on the sidelines from it, too.

    Good call.

Hang in there. I’ve had one DNS before — worst feeling of my running career to miss a race I had signed up for. But NEVER run when you’re sick — it’ll only make it worse!

Probably the best decision and one I’m sure you didn’t make lightly. Hope you feel better soon!

It is surprisingly hard isn’t it, to decide to be a DNS. I’ve had a couple of races where I’ve thought I shouldn’t run, due to knee/calf issues though not flu. I’ve always started, and they’ve always been terrible runs. I’d say you’ve made the right choice. Live to fight stronger another day!

Sorry to hear about your DNS, but I think you are making the right decision. There will be plenty more races, and that Auckland Marathon sounds awesome! Also, thanks for your question on my last post. My resting heart rate, as far as I can tell, is 45bpm. You’ve motivated me to check again and I will be doing so for the next little while every morning (if I can remember!).

Good luck to your wife on her race!
