Hard luck on the run - but well done on getting around despite the setbacks. You'll be back in 2010 with a PB - I'm sure of it.

I didn't bother with hanging with the pace group but rather I just used my digital watch and checked it against the km signs along the course. The mental arithmetic is also a useful diversion.

Running with a pacer might help you get in the right rhythm or if you like running in a group?

So what's the next event, Andrew? And the next time goal?

If the idea of inaccurate pace makers puts you off, you can wear a pace band that gives times at every km and 5 km split. Pace makers also wear these to keep the pace, but pace makers are human and may not always give the best results.

Congrats on powering through amid the issues! I am irritated with the pacer - and I am half a world away! That is just wrong! The whole idea of a pacer is to give a consistent runner to follow. That being said I found out that my first marathon won't have any pacers..... not sure if I am ok with that yet or not....

Nice pics! You look very happy while running, and even more happy later with the nice medal!

Just call me jealous again - what an awesome place for a marathon!

Here's to your next one!

Congratulations :)
Sorry to hear about your second half, but you still made it through in a great time!
Thanks for posting that video, setting the two alarms saved me as my regular one didn't go off!
Thanks too for the Revive tip, I'm off to get some food :)

Well done! The Auckland pacers are abysmal. I have never followed them, but every single one I've observed has been all over the place. Like the 2 hour half pacer who was running 5:00ks aruond the tank farm when I was going past. Appalling!!
