Goals for 2010: Weightloss
I’ve decided that 2010 is the year that I get to my immediate weightloss goal which is 188 pounds (85kgs).
To do this I need to return to what worked for me in 2008 and the early part of 2009. Daily weigh-ins tracked on Physics Diet and weekly reporting. On that note here is my weight chart for the last week:
I know I don’t need to go crazy with restricting my food as I tend to eat very healthy most of the time. I just have to remember moderation in all things is a good idea and with the amount of running I do I’ll be fine.
It’s funny but for me the key to success is definitely measurement and reporting. I also hope that losing a bit more weight will help me run a bit faster which will help with my running goal of beating the 4 hr mark in my next marathon.
On that note I did a nice 12.3 km run this morning in pouring rain and a strong wind. Fortunately it was rather warm so I actually enjoyed it to be honest.

Measuring & reporting – so simple, so effective, so easy to let slide, especially when we “know” we’re generally eating well. I like seeing the Physics Diet (you commented on my blog about it.) I’ll have to check it out. Good luck on the 2010 goals!

I think the last 13kg is infinitely doable. Craig lost about that much last year to be at his lowest weight since leaving the army 22 years ago. And yes, it makes a huge difference when it comes to running. Every kg you lose makes you faster. Good luck!

Thanks for the nice comments Andrew!
As for weight loss, oh I hear you … I know the last 5kg (actually more like 7kg if I’m very honest) will make me run better – not so easy to lose it though
Good luck, I’ll be cheering you on

I’m right there with you. I’m starting this year off the way I did 6 years ago when I first lost weight. My weight on Jan. 1 was 5 pounds more than last year at this time. Soooo mad at myself! Let’s do this together, virtually!

It seems that we constantly have similar goals, Andrew! I too am going to get down to my goal weight this year of 175 pounds. I bet you’re a bit taller than me (I’m 5’10). My running goal is a 4 hour marathon as well–May 2nd will be my first marathon ever and I’m hoping A) to finish and B)to get under 4 hours. We’ll see. I’ll root for you if you root for me!

You’re knocking on the door of your goal weight already, so I’m comfortable putting my money on your success!
Doesn’t it feel great to know you can do it without making huge changes?

It really is pretty simple, isn’t it. Most of the time we know what works, we just have to do it. It sounds like you are ready to do just that. You are pretty close to your immediate goal weight, so I have no doubt you can achieve it. We are both in pretty similar positions weight wise. It feels good to be this close to where I want to be. I am sure you feel the same.

Like the others, I’m confident you’ll get there too. I’m like you, the act of recording and measuring makes it so much easier.

Andrew,
Good luck with your goals for 2010. I will have to check out this PhysicsDiet.com…I am not familiar with it. Given my undergrad is in Physics, I’m curious!

Nice going with your run, and I wish you success with the weight loss. Running has definitely been the foundation of my exercise program and works great for my weight control.
I just got back from a 7 mile run here in northern Florida. It was COLD!! 20 degrees F this morning. I think you are in New Zealand? It’s one of the places I hope to visit one day! I’ve been to South Africa, but don’t get south of the equator too often.

Fantastic goals for the year – I can’t believe you want to increase your weekly running target even more – I’m exhausted just reading about it

I saw you this morning on the blue bridge as I cycled past, but didn’t want to be that stalker girl again
Keep blogging, we love to see your progress and it motivates us all to be that little bit fitter too!

Just found your site and wow, how inspiring you are! I am far from being able to call myself a runner, but that is my goal someday…so when I see all that you’ve accomplished (and hope to accomplish) it’s so very inspiring to me! I will definitely be following your blog more!

“the key to success is definitely measurement and reporting” I couldn’t agree more, this is exactly the case for me as well, when I do it by the book? losses every week, strength gains every week, when I don’t? not so much lol

I’m all about tracking your efforts. I track my weight on the wii fit and it has just become a habit for me.
Andrew isn’t it amazing to think that you are at a point now where one of your immediate goals is to break the 4hr marathon mark. I wonder what your running goals were 94 lbs ago?

I think you are on the right track. One thing that helped me is once I reached my goal, I would not let myself gain back more than 5 pounds without doing something about. I have found that it is a lot easier for me to lose 5 pounds, than to lose 10, 20, 30 or more pounds. So, far this method has worked well for me. I have been using it for about 4 years and have done very well.
