Weigh-in Monday #2 2010
Well, it’s been a relatively good week weightloss wise:
All green which is great. I went to a barbeque at a friend’s place on Saturday and the spread was so delicious that I had one too many helpings of salad. I figure that if I’m going to overindulge then overindulging in the healthy stuff is the way to go.
This is the chart for the year so far:
I’m at 97.26 kg (214 pounds) so I’m making progress in the right direction. I’m hoping to keep myself in the green for a good while yet.
I actually find it reasonably easy to lose weight as long as I’m disciplined and eat only healthy food. So no processed junk for me at all wherever reasonable. Add that to my running and it seems to be coming off nicely.
Speaking of running, I got in two good runs on the weekend. I did 10.1 km on Saturday morning and 14.7 on Sunday morning. Conditions were absolutely perfect for both runs with low humidity and the gentlest of breezes.
I think it is getting close to retirement time for my Brookes shoes as they’ve got almost 750km on them already and I’m starting to feel my ankles a bit after the runs. That’s normally my indicator. Fortunately I’ve got two more pairs already lined up.
Running tends to get reasonably pricey when you start doing higher milage as you churn through shoes rather quickly.

I also wear Brooks shoes, and have nothing but good things to say about them. I have the Addiction and Adrenaline models at the moment and alternate between them in training. I also purchased the adidas adiSTAR a couple of months ago, but I haven’t got around to wearing them in training! Since I’m an adidas junkie, I need something from adidas! Plus at certain events, if you wear adidas you might get concessions, such as entry into their VIP tent!

I used to be all Adidas but now I’m on Brooks Defyance 2s for the shoes. The rest of my gear is normally Adidas although I’m starting to collect more Brooks stuff as I like to match!

It is about time for me to replace my shoes too. I don’t know how many miles I have on either pair, but since I walked 750 miles last year, it is reasonable to assume each pair has roughly 375 miles. Since I had one of those a few months of 2008, it probably has 500 miles on it.

It’s 12 deg F outside as I type this. Cookouts are not a problem…

Great work Andrew! As it gets closer to summer (I live in Alaska, and we’re in the middle of winter), I plan to start running, but I’ll have to find myself a good pair of running shoes first.

Well done on the green. My own weight has been a bit annoying and plateauing. I should take a leaf from your book and stay away from processed – it seems to do the trick.

Like all that green! You can probably eat pretty much as much salad as you like can’t you, as long as it’s not smothered in mayonaise or fatty dressing?

Way to go!! Don’t hesitate on the new shoes, it’s not worth the risk of strain or injury. Once I find a pair that works for me (for me, it’s Saucony Omni Progrid 7) I tend to go back and buy at least one if not 2 extra pairs to have them on standby. Nothing is more frustrating than to wear out a pair and find they’re no longer available!

Nice start to the year with the weight. I was down 3 pounds in week 1. As far as shoes go, I somehow can’t get very many miles out of mine — I’m just much more comfortable in newer shoes.

Congrats on the weight loss!
I don’t know if I need new shoes or not, but I’m going to check out a running store (thanks for the tip David H.) to see whats out there and to be fitted for something. I’ve been running, working out, whatever in a pair of Nike Reax right now.

Nice weekend running there! And continued success on your weight loss goals. I think you will succeed, and am rooting for you. I’m about 12lbs over where I was while training for the marathon that never happened, so I have a bit to lose myself. All the best!

Hey mate, just wanted to say thanks for all the comments on my blog. It’s much appreciated, and to be honest, you’re one of my inspirations for running.
Nice work on the weight loss! I need to get some new shoes too. Hell, I’m running in walking shoes

Love it. Your charts are so neat – I might have to sign up there to get my own. I’ve never heard of brooks shoes, but it’s good to know for when I become the runner I was always meant to be!
Congrats on a great 1st week on 2010!

Good job Andrew! I have actually signed up with that physicsdiet website too (public profile, gregstransformation) and it’s interesting to see the running average that filters out daily fluctuations. It’s also dishartening for me to see that I seem to have started losing muscle mass along with the fat in the past week. I have dropped my calories to keep the same deficit and at my weight that deficit might be just too much. I’ll see what the rest of this week brings and how my lifts go at the gym. If they suffer I’ll definitely have to slow it down a bit.
At any rate, I hope you get in the groove and keep up your weight loss!

“I had one too many helpings of salad” is that even possible?
I will take one too many helpings of salad over one too many helpings of meat loaf or the likes any day!
