Finding inspiration on the run
I did my long run this morning (Saturday) rather than my normal Sunday as I was out and it was a beautiful day and I felt good.
As you can see conditions were absolutely perfect:
There was an ocean swim clinic setting up. Ocean swimming is not something I’m a big fan of as I am always imagining rather large creatures coming up from below to have a nibble on me.
I found a few things quite inspirational on the run.
The first of these was a running goddess. A beautiful woman who zoomed past me. She had the perfect running build and her motion was just poetry in motion. She inspired me because she just reinforced in my mind that we are meant to run. Sorry – no photo of her.
The second was another woman who was running along on the sand. She looked like she was struggling but she was very determined:
She inspired me because she just wasn’t giving up. By the way, I wasn’t checking out all the women on my run although it may seem like that!
Steve Runner from Phedippidations was also talking about inspiration on his latest podcast that I was listening to this morning. One of the things he mentioned was that he finds the emails and so forth that he gets very inspirational and he urged us all to try and inspire others to run. I’m a strong believer in getting people out running and I’d like to do more to help others in this regard. I haven’t quite figured out how yet but I’ll think of something.
One thing I do love is when I receive emails from folks saying how me writing about my fitness and weight-loss journey has helped them get started on their own. You’d be amazed at how many of these I’ve received.
I also find each and every comment from you folks inspiring and motivational. Thank you all.
Anyway, I did 16km this morning and it was great. Here’s my running map:
52km for the week and I may or may not go out tomorrow morning with my wife. I find her especially inspiring.

You say you’d like to help inspire others to get out and run. I’d say you already do. I know you have inspired me just in the short time I’ve been familiar with your blog!
And congrats on going 2 yrs without the soda! See, that’s inspiring!

Your rout is absolutely gorgeous. You must love getting out there. All I have in Minneapolis are slushy roads, snow, and the TV at the gym.
What software do you use to chart your runs?

You’ve definitely inspired me Andrew. Your beautiful running photos certainly help, if I had such a nice place to run here, I’d be even more inspired!
We are in the middle of the winter here in Alaska, so I don’t want to be “learning” to run with all the snow and ice, but as soon as spring comes, I’m definitely going to be heading out and hitting the pavement. The other upside to doing it this way is that I’ll be able to lose some more weight between now and then, hopefully making the running less stressful on my body.

The pictures from your run are always inspiring to me! I love looking @ the beauty of NZ while I’m here in snowy, icy, cold Nebraska. The sun is actually shining today, so I’m really excited about that!!!

Nice pictures! Running on sand is tough or at least I find it is. What time did you go out for your run? Looks pretty early?

What a lovely place to run!
You know, some people might have smirked at the woman who was struggling, perhaps not even considered her a “real” runner. How much do I love that you saw her for her EFFORT! You’re a stand up (but not standing still) guy, Andrew!

I haven’t gotten tot he point that I feel like I was meant to run, not even close. I do, however, feel like I am meant to be far more fit than I am.
Great work Andrew!

Very poignant post.
Personally, I find running in the sand to be extremely challenging, so I can relate to the woman who was struggling.
But – as you said – she was out there. Kudos to her!

You are an inspiration to many of us!!
I gave you an award on my blog today
The beautiful places you run are very inspirational.
A great way to inspire others to run, I believe, is to offer some information on getting started, especially for those who have lost weight and are comfortable with some other type of exercise. It would be extremely helpful to understand the best way to start a running routine, how to increase the intensity, etc.

Wow…I’d say your beautiful scenery is pretty inspiring! Jealous you get to run outside…I’m stuck on the track!!
I love when you’re running and you see other runners who somehow push you to get keep going. My marathon training book called them “Running Angels.”

That looks like a beautiful place to run. Sea level is funnier to run than up in the darn mountains. I think I may join the hundred push-up challenge it is good goal. Nothing like getting a little core workout with chest tri’s included.
