A wet and windy 20k run
As I mentioned last week I’ve shifted my long run to Saturday so Sally (my wife) can do her long run on Sunday morning. That way we always have someone available to look after Emma (our monkey).
Well, my long run was wet and windy and just great. I’ve been really enjoying my running lately. I’m not too sure why but I’m going to just enjoy it while it lasts. Hopefully it lasts a long time!
There were a few periods where the rain died down for a bit. So I got in a few pictures. I always wrap up my ipod and camera in gladwrap before heading out on a wet day. There’s the city in the background:
It was a bit more sheltered by the marina:
Overall a great 20.6km run around Auckland City.
That brings my total mileage this week to 65.6 km (40.7 miles) which I’ll happily take. If I can get another few months of these easy running weeks in I’m going to have a great aerobic base for my half marathons and marathon this year.
I’ve got a blogger meet up this afternoon. More about that tomorrow!

That is great mileage Andrew! I’m going to keep mine around half of that while in preparation for my first 10k then I’ll bump it to about 30 miles (50k) through the following 12 weeks and THEN I’ll start my marathon training.
What is your pace for these long runs on the weekend if you don’t mind me asking?

Hi Andrew
You are going so well. I was over your way a couple of weeks ago and had a couple of magical runs around the Ramarama hills. Loved it!!

Looking around your blog is very inspiring, Andrew. You started out at about the same weight as I did, and it’s great to see someone who’s been able to really achieve these goals. Thanks for sharing here!

I always look forward to your running photos, such a beautiful place to live! I would LOVE to visit New Zealand some day.
It always confuses me for a moment when you reference the day – you talk about going on your run on Saturday, and I’m reading this Friday night. I guess you’re almost a full 24 hours ahead of Alaska where you’re at.

I’m a new follower – came on over from Mary’s blog. I’m also a new runner! Love the area you get to run through. My suburb over in Brisbane, Australia isn’t nearly as pretty.

I am impressed that anyone could run that far, let alone in wet, rainy weather. Beautiful city as a view might have helped some… Nah, I still couldn’t have done it. I’d've hiked it.

40.7 miles in a week is KICKASS, and its nice to finally see a picture w/o a beautiful clear sky (says the jealous resident of the cold, crappy eastern US).

Andrew,
thanks for the comment on my blog! I too had a good amount of wet running the past week, looking forward to some nicer dry days soon.
Do you have a goal race/date for your four hour marathon?
