A long run for cake

DSC01407My long run yesterday morning was most enjoyable.  I got up at 5am as I suspected it would get rather hot rather quickly as that has been the pattern the last few days.  It turns out that was a good move!

I headed out towards Cornwall Park.  The picture to the left is from the path that runs alongside the road through the park.  It’s a beautiful area to run through and was suprisingly quiet.  I guess they don’t unlock the gates for cars till 7 but I thought there would be more runners and walkers about.

I then headed down to the coast via Newmarket and Parnell and did my normal run along Tamaki Drive.

I finished off in the Orakei Basin which is a couple of hundred meters away from my home:

Overall just over 20km. A most enjoyable loop.

I went to a wedding later in the day and this was most enjoyable:

A hazelnut and bitter chocolate torte with truffle.  Rather nice!

In other news I was recently contacted by an organisation working along side the running music producer AudioFuel and the Virgin London Marathon. They are looking for people to vote for their favourite running tracks. These votes will help build this years soundtrack for the London Marathon which will later be available on iTunes. If you are interested in helping Music and Motivation create this soundtrack you can stop by and vote. If you are interested in what this soundtrack is like you can listen to a free fuel sampler which can be downloaded here.

My mother in law lives a few minutes’ walk from Cornwall Park. I used to enjoy running there! My husband and I got married at the bottom of that big flight of concrete steps below the Cornwall Park cafe, so the place has good memories for me.

What a beautiful place to run. Maybe no one else wanted to get up at 5 am. LOL.
I can’t even imagine being able to run 20 km. I surprised myself the other day when I actually managed to run 8 km straight. And that was tough! :)

You know, I might be willing to run 20K for a piece of that cake right now. Forbidden food of any sort is calling me because it knows I can’t have it for eight more weeks. :)

I could maybe run down that trail if I was running for my life! But i would walk down it fast. Looks pleasent…

Ok that cake shot was cruel man…Just cruel….But at least when I looked at it now All I thought was 1000+ calories at least…

But worth it after a long run no less.

That running course looks great … if I thought I could bear the irritation of a camera with me, I’d take a photo of the river I run beside! The cake looks yummmmmmy, I shouldn’t even be looking at it. The running tunes sounds very interesting, especially so as any thing that says London and Marathon together makes me look LOL when I’ve got some quiet time I’ll have a good look at it – I’m always looking for good running music :)

I so admire your long runs, Andrew! I remember your comment on my blog recently where you said it’d been two years since you started c25k and for me to think about how far I could come in two years time. That has stuck with me and every time I read one of your running posts it inspires me even more to keep at it.

ps. send me a bite of that cake, would ya?

I hate you! Every time I come over here you post some fantastic scenery shots and it makes me all the more jealous. I just ran in sub zero (24 F, -4C) weather over the weekend in muggy overcast of boring suburban streets. Nothing like your runs. And if I blink the next think I’ll know is the 100+ (36C) weather starting in the summer. I sure wish I could run in places and weather like you.

The cake does not intrigue me as much as the running weather and location but I’d take a sample any day.
