Running for the joy of it

DSC01419I’ve been really enjoying my early morning runs.

This week I’ve upped them slightly and have done 13 km on Monday (very wet!), 12.5 km on Tuesday and 12 km today.

It was rather windy this morning but still very enjoyable. I’ve just been finding running so enjoyable lately. It’s hard to not go for a run on my rest days but I must!

I did my normal route down to Tamaki Drive and then ran to Bastion Point and back.  At one point I had to pass over the railway tracks and thought I would snap a quick photo.

It’s a bit different from my normal photos but I enjoyed it. :)

Overall I’ve run an average of just over an hour a day for 2010 so far.  If I can keep this up I’ll have a huge base!

I’ve been sorely tempted to upgrade my half marathon in June to the full marathon.  Must resist but I’m very tempted.

    V. Nice! I’d love to run like that, to be able to just pop out and do 5-miles.

I really admire those who can run. Even at my skinniest, I wasn’t built for it.

You can get there. One step at a time.

Your running posts (and photos) always get me really excited to start running. As soon as things warm up around here, and the ice and snow are melted, I’m going to get started with the Couch to 5k program. Once I build up my strength and confidence in running, I hope to be able to run year-round here (except for when it dips down to -20 to -30° F, when I don’t do much outside but run between my car and my house/work).

It’s a delicious circle, isn’t it? The more you run, the more fit you get, which makes you enjoy the run even more and want to run farther, which gets you more fit, which makes you enjoy…. I love it, and love that you’re having so much fun!

When running is going so well, it’s tempting to change your plans, isn’t it? I suggest sticking to the half and making it your best race ever! A marathon make become more like a part-time job. You can do that later.

Really inspiring – and great photo. I am frustrated waiting for my lungs to clear after a long bout with the flu – no runs until then for me, sadly. SO, I will live vicariously through your runs for a few days (fingers crossed).

Even though I’m getting past the point where I don’t despise exercise like I used to, I’m still hoping I’ll get to the point where I truly enjoy it and making it a party of my day isn’t a struggle! Very inspiring to see someone who’s done that.

I have started running more (indoors) and I really love it too! Your pictures make me excited for spring and outdoor running – but I’ll have to wait a few more weeks here in Montreal!

Wish I could get into morning runs more. If I could, I’d have longer weekly averages. Just not enough hours in the day to get it all in…

You’re an inspiration. I’m just getting reacquainted with mileage (4-5 miles) and currently experience moments of enjoyment, interspersed with longer moments of misery, on my runs. I know as I gain fitness, the enjoyment will follow. Thanks for reminding me it’s worth it!

Wow, that sure is a good bit of running you are doing! It would be a dream for me to be able to run 10-12k every morning, but my body would simply break down and not allow it (yet). Keep on enjoying that base building!

Great pictures! I can’t wait until I can start running — right now my knee is bad and I need to ease into it. What kind of shoes do you run in? I’m fascinated by the debate about barefoot versus shod-foot running and the whole heel/toe debate (as in which should hit the ground first, heel or toe?).

Very nice, I’m actually starting to like running too, but I’m no where as good as you are yet. I can run for 15 minutes without an issue, but after that I feel the need to stop. :)

    I’ll get there though, it’s fun. :)

Sadly I have no time to do the morning runs. I just can’t get up in time for them. So I do mine at lunch time and squeeze it in. I won’t be able to do that after spring though, Texas heat is not really conducive of high noon runs.

I also like that you take pictures on your daily runs, it keeps your runs interesting.

As for the upgrade to full marathon, I know what you mean. I almost registered for the Chicago marathon, 10/10/10 and all, but I think I’ll stick with White Rock in Dallas in December instead.

Hey, sorry for the double comment, but thought this was great, from your archives when you were starting C25K and getting your head around running for 2 whole minutes! How far you’ve come, and not too long ago. Bravo!

I did my first session of week 03 of C25K today. This involves running for three minutes at two points. I completed it successfully (Yay me!), but I did find that the little voice inside me was saying “I can’t do this! Give up!”
