Weigh in post #6 2010: Now with push-ups!
It’s been another great week for my health and fitness goals. The weight side of the equation is going well. Another all green week with 1.28 kg (2.8 pounds) lost off my trend line.
For those who don’t know, I record my weight at PhysicsDiet.com every morning and it computes a trend line which smooths out the daily fluctuations. If my actual weight is lower than the trend my graph stays green. If it goes higher the graph switches to red. I use my trend line weight as my actual weight as that is what I’m maintaining even though my scale weight is about a kg (2 pounds) lighter. Once I move closer to my goal the line between trend and actual should merge.
And so far it has been an all green year!
If you look at the chart for the year I think it is reasonably easy to see where the weekends where I overindulged are! This last weekend’s eating was reasonably good overall although I did have some cake at a friends birthday party and the sugar did make me long for junkfood in the evening. However I resisted and so had a reasonably good weigh-in this morning.
In other news I did the end of week 04 push-up test yesterday morning and did a whopping 75 push-ups in a row! That is a new personal best for me. The hundred push-up challenge rocks!

Big congrats!!!! Great work! I love push-ups but don’t do the challenge because I am afraid it will mess up my strength for all my other weight workouts. I can do quite a few in a row & I even do them after my weights. One day I will try them with a good days rest & see how many I can do!

I wish my year had been in green.
I’ve been battling red for hte past 2 weeks. I hope I’m finally on a downward trend.

Very cool…weight, race times, and golf scores, are the only things I like to see in a downward trend. Congrats!

It looks good to me! Thank you for posting the site, I have been recording my daily weight in a diary this year and I just put them all into that site and found that even though I feel like I’m struggling and not getting anywhere – I am actually pretty much all green as well
(except for two pink peaks on the Saturdays after I’ve over indulged on a Friday!). Not a lot of weight lost, but definitely nice to see the overall trend is just fine and going down, albeit very slowly.

Great work on the loss Andrew! However, the 75 consecutive push ups is the impressive number for the week. Good work!

Great work on the weight loss. I’ve really grown to like the approach that PhysicsDiet.com uses. Instead of viewing a small gain as a failure, it recognizes as that your overall trend is downward, you’re doing well.
Also congrats on the 75 pushups, you’re rocking that challenge, and I know you’ll be at 100 before long!

I agree, I liked Physicsdiet’s stats so much that I made the same in Excel for my own charts. So far I’m staying under the average line as well. Let’s hope I can keep it up.

I don’t know how you do it without meat.
I would feel hungry all the time if that was me, I needs my protein.

A couple of years ago I put on a strict diet, and together with weight lifting and running I was able to achieve my ideal weight. What I’m finding really hard now is gaining muscle. Believe me, once you have the right weight, you’ll want to build muscle, and there comes the harder part. My 2 cents

I think I need to check out PhysicsDiet… I’ve taken to weighing in weekly (if that) to help smooth out the daily fluctuations, but even then it’s easy to get discouraged. If you lose a bit of weight throughout the week, but the first Monday is a “low” weigh-in and the following Monday is a “high” weighin, it’s hard to see any progress.

P.S. How long did it take you to get to up to the end of Week 4? That is, how many weeks did you repeat in the interim?

Awesome stuff on both fronts! 75 pushups is a terrific number. I remember getting to that total at the end of one of the workouts for the push up challenge and really surprising myself. I think once you hit 75 you really start to see the finish line and that coveted 100. You’re so close!!!
