Mad dogs and Englishmen
If you're new here, you may want to get my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! I couldn't do this without the help of my commenters!
I had a really early meeting yesterday morning so I decided it was better to go for my run at lunchtime. There’s an expression: Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun. Well, technically I’m an Englishman as I travel on a British passport but I was born in South Africa and now am a citizen of New Zealand so I guess that makes me more of a mad dog!
Conditions were HOT!
I didn’t carry any water either as there were water fountains along the way but they seemed few and the distance between them seemed to stretch off into infinity.
That red sail you can see in the distance is one of our former America’s cup winning boats.
Here it is again:
And a a contrast here are the conditions at about 7AM on Monday morning:
I much prefer running in the early morning. It is just such a nice way to start the day. I found that I was sitting in my meetings thinking so many more hours till I can go run!
I enjoyed my hot run even though I drank a solid two litres of water afterwards! Weight loss through extreme dehydration is not really part of my plan though! So far 40 km this week and it’s only Wednesday.

Awesome job….I wish I had that view. THat would probably make that heat easier than the heat hear — however…that is something that we do not have here in the Midwest U.S. right now…..IT is COLD!!
Good job on the runs.
That is not the newest blog posting either. I don’t think it updates quite right for me.

Weight Loss “Weigh-Ins” – a Path to Success…
When I was slightly younger, and there was something that I just had to accomplish or have, I used a very successful strategy. I would tell everyone I knew what I intended so that I became accountable for getting what I wanted. I always got what I want…

Lol, keep the water up!
Nice pictures, I enjoy running while watching a movie at my gym. I’m not yet fit enough to run outside.. pavement is not my friend yet.

I am constantly amazed by the beauty of the area you run in. It certainly would make it easier to get out there and run!
I think you’re right, there are plenty of blogs to go read to get inspiration and help without having to pay for the privilege.

OMG! Did you see that? The beaches are so cool!! It is really great to run early in the morning… breathing fresh air.. seeing fresh faces.. aww.. but you know what? i heard that it’s better to run in the afternoon because the oxygen dropped.. i mean they are on the ground.. they said, early in the morning, most oxygen are high above so there is less oxygen in the body.. (wink)

Nice lunchtime run. Those sights are sure enough to give you the kick to make it through the afternoon blahs.

I am very jealous on your surroundings. We here in Minnesota have gotten 15 inches of snow over the last couple of days. We are expecting more this weekend. The snow here starts in November, and the same snow stays until April. So I miss the out doors by now….

Thanks for the comment
You are so right about not trying anything new. I did that for my first and only half marathon with Gatorade and my stomach was cramping BIG time!! Great job on your run!

Like you, I love the early morn time for workouts. It is peaceful & here in crowded southern CA, way less people & cars!
That scenery is so beautiful! Congrats on that run!
What is hot there? What was the temp for your run?

Gorgeous! Looking forward to some heat around here, I can’t remember the last time we were above freezing. Good for the Crystal Light Frozen pops I still have out on my deck, bad for everything else.

I need to give morning running a shot. I just can’t seem to get out of the going to bed late getting up late rhythm. But in a couple of months I’ll have no choice as lunchtime weather will get unbearable.
