A run with the Queen

I ran into work with the Queen this morning. The Queen Mary 2 that is! Apparently it is the world’s biggest and most luxurious ocean liner and it’s in Auckland today.

The only photos that I could get of it were actually from quite far away:

Queen Mary 2

You can see it on the right.  It is huge when you compare it to the size of the city!

I ran out on this little (200 metre long) jetty to get that shot above:

I’d hoped to get a better photo once I got closer to the city but unfortunately the container terminal blocked the view!  The QM2 is so big that it had to go berth at the container terminal rather than the passenger terminal.

Overall, it was quite nice to see glimpses of it but it was even nicer to be out for a run this morning.  14.3km and conditions were absolutely perfect for running.

I was listening to Burning 2010 this morning and one of the points Adam was making is that no matter where you live there are beautiful places to run.  Well in my city that is the rule rather than the exception I think!

that’s pretty cool. There are some nice spots in Missouri if you get out into the country. Not a lot around the city areas though.

That ship must be huge because it still looks gigantic even from so far away. You definitely live in a beautiful place!

And to think I fell for the ‘a run with the queen’!

Even that little jetty looks cool and fun to run on!

    Great job on the km’s.

I’m jealous! The weather here is still way too cold to run outside. Once it gets warmer I have every intention of going out and running around the National Mall.

I love your running photos! They always inspire me to take my run outdoors as much as possible. Finally it is warming up here (around +2 C) so I have been able to do this a couple of times this week!

I’d heard about just how big the Queen Mary is, and your shot of it in amongst the buildings really brings it home. Also, nice run yet again!

Andrew, I’ve meaning to comment on your blog for many months. I’m a San Franciscan, 39-year-old lawyer, married with two small children. Last year as my daughter approached her 1st birthday I decided it was time to get out of the postpartum/incipient middle-aged sloth. Did Couch to 5K last spring and your blog was one of several inspirations to me. Am now training for my first 10K. It’s amazing to read how far you have come (literally and figuratively) and how much joy you are taking in your life. I love the pictures of your runs.

I’m a very slow runner still (my 5K time last year was 33:22, and if I can do a 10K under 1:10 I will be pleased) but am working on it, and hope my body holds up! Thank you for the continued inspiration, and good luck to you. I’ll check in from time to time…
