Good job Andrew, keep up the good work. I have found that writing out my goals gives me the best chance of reaching them.

Thanks for the information Andrew, and the link. Interesting read! I'm not sure I have the requisite discipline to follow through on the low heart rate training as described, but it does make sense in many ways, and in particular the whole training your body to burn fat and not rely exclusively on carbs and glycogen stores. I, for one, believe we eat way too much carbs, especially the processed variety, and that nothing good comes of this type of diet.

Though it is tasty!

I've been trying to keep myself under 145 (180 - my age) beats per minute although I find that quite easy now and tend to average around 130 for 6:30/km. My target marathon pace is 5:30ish and I can do 1km bursts at that while keeping my hr under 145 now.

That's keeping my hr well in the aerobic zone.

I got started on this by reading the posts in the low HR group on running ahead.

I have recently started a weight lifting routine and walk on a regular basis. I like the idea of the "Weekend Warrior Challenge". Setting some personal goals for a specified time period. I am going to try and see if I can get the family together for a walk this coming weekend. I think that if I suggest going to a mall I can get the kids interested. ;o) It will be some nice family time with a healthy goal mixed in. Thanks for the idea and I want to check out the physicsdiet.com site as well that you used for the graphs above. ;o)

Nice work Andrew! And 77km for the week is amazing. I am curious about what you call "slow running", partly because I have trouble holding back whenever I intend to run slow, and partly because I would love to feel stronger as my mileage increases as well. Do you judge yourself based on pace or is it more based on heart rate zones? If pace do you have a threshold below which you will not run (and no ceiling to how slow you go), or do you try and stay in a range? If heart rate what is the target range for you since I think we are about the same age?

Keep up the good work!

You always seem to be weighing in when I see your blog. :p

Weekend are killer for you too? I have a friend in town now.. so going out to eat is the norm for me at the moment. Luckily I know what to eat and how to say no at times.

Keep running andrew. :)
