Auckland Marathon this Sunday
My goals:
A: Break the world record (Thanks Scott!)
B: Break 4 hours.
C: Set a PR.
D: Finish!
I’ve got a good feeling about this race but we’ll have to see. I haven’t done many long runs but I have done many 48+ mile weeks so we’ll have to see how things go.
Auckland Marathon 2010
Hmm…I sort of entered the Auckland marathon this afternoon. It’s in two week’s time (31 October) so I think I’ll start training by tapering.
World Wide Festival of Races Half Marathon
I signed up for the World Wide Festival of Races Half Marathon. This race is a free, non-commercial event for runners of all abilities, where everyone is invited to register, train and run in the spirit of friendship. Basically you choose a route, run it anywhere in the world and then report your results to the website.
I decided to do it as my long run this week. So yesterday morning I got up at 5am and headed out the door. It was dark and wet in the beginning but conditions improved rapidly and it became a beautiful day:
I had a good run around Auckland. I initially headed inland and ran around One Tree Hill then headed out to the coast to run along the waterfront:
The first half of the run was reasonably leisurely and I had to speed up quite a bit in the second half in order to meet my goal of coming in under 2 hours. In the end I did it in 1:59:18 which was right on target.
I felt great afterwards and it was fun to know I was participating in a world wide event.
This morning I did a nice 18km run with my wife all along the waterfront. Conditions were perfect and the company was great! This is her at about the 12km mark:
Overall I’ve done 87.9km this week which is my highest mileage week ever. And I feel great which is even better. Next week I’ll try to crack 90!
Running going well–eating not so much
Last week I managed to run 78ish km which is my highest mileage week since the longer runs of my last marathon training cycle back in May. We’ve had beautiful Spring conditions this week:
My running is going really well and I’ve been really enjoying it. I’m at the point where exercise is a must have not a nice to have in my life and I love that feeling!
The eating on the other hand…
Mac had a great post out yesterday where he made this point that I can really identify with:
Many people think that losing the weight is the hard part. And yeah, weight loss IS hard; I’ve done it. But let me tell you, I think maintaining your weight loss is even harder. It takes persistence, diligence, and dedication just to keep your weight the same.
I’ve found my weight creeping up slightly – I’m still in my happyish zone but the danger signs are there so I need to focus on eating clean again. It’s not that hard – I just have to get out of the mindset that I can eat lots of snacks because I’m running heaps. Which is actually surprisingly hard! Back to basics, one day at a time.
