I was running in the gym today (don’t ask me why – especially considering it’s a beautiful day outside) and I’d run 7km and was thinking that I’d really had enough.  It was pretty boring and my heart just wasn’t in it.  It happens every so often and it is no big deal.

However, something happened that made me flashback to 3 years ago.  The music video playing on the TV in the gym featured this big fat chap lying on the couch channel surfing and eating pizza.  And I saw myself a few years ago.

I only started running 3 years ago.  My very first post on this blog (I had another before then) was about starting to learn how to run using Couch to 5K.

Since then I’ve run about 6 5K races, 5 10K races, 6 Half Marathons, 5 Marathons and I’m in training for my first Ultra Marathon in about 8 weeks.  I’ve run 6,345.9 km (3943 miles).  That’s a lot of donuts!

Needless to say after thinking about all that I got inspired and added another 5k to my run and it was a joy! Open-mouthed smile

Happy running birthday! You’ve done a tremendous amount of running in such a short time and it’s been great to follow much of your journey.

That’s great Andrew, you’ve certainly accomplished quite a bit in the last 3 years. I’m coming up on my 1 year run-iversary in April, and I can’t wait to see where I’ll be in another 2!

I am 52 years old and just started running in 2007 to lose weight. I am currently training for the Southern Indiana Classic Marathon in April. I have started a blog to document my progress.
Any questions, comments, critiques, suggestions, etc would be appreciated.

That is fantastic! I did my first full marathon last fall and that was a huge triumph in its self I can’t imagine all you’ve done, congrats.

Looking for suggestions on music to listen to when I work out. My resolution for 2011 is to find more high energy music than the normal Top 40 stuff. While searching for music I found this video, its pretty funny and the song gets me moving. Wait until the end for a url to get the song for free:

Music suggestions welcome. Any songs you can’t go to the gym without?

That is awesome. I can only hope I have half as much success with my running and I’d be a very happy man.

    Congrats

Feeling healthy and feeling good about yourself is not a luxury – it’s an absolute necessity.
