It’s Wednesday which means intervals!
Peter and I did intervals in the Auckland Domain again today. We upped it to ten quarter km repeats. He did them in well under a minute whereas I was hovering around the minute mark.
I remembered to wear my HR strap and you can definitely see that I had to work a bit harder at times!
I think the intervals are pretty good. You definitely know you’re getting a workout while doing them. ![]()

Yes, you are lucky to have a run buddy…that would be so fun.
Thanks for the reminder that I need to do more interval training! Will do.

Nice dude. I try to do intervals at least once a week. Keep up the good work!

Looking at your HRM, were you slacking off after the last one (ho ho ho).

It’s always great to read success stories, and yours is a particularly inspiring one. I need these to keep myself going, and I thank you for your story. Do you know of anywhere else I can find something similar? I just checked out Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition and was actually moved to tears by one young man’s resolve to fulfill his late mother’s wish to get healthy (if you mock me, just watch it and you’ll cry too: http://bit.ly/iVQgtF).
Which blogs from your recommended list are of similar sentiment?
interval training is so much healthier for you then cardio. You can increase growth hormone and testosterone. Just make sure to have proper pre and post workout meals. To lower the cortisol secretion that comes from working out.

An HRM is a great thing to use and I always get annoyed if I forget mine. It’s great to be able to map out your routines and have a record of your performance.

My interval training involves doing repeated sprints with resistance exercise such as pull ups, squats, burpees or push ups.The workouts last about 20 minutes. They are short but intense. The best part about intervals is that they work – my body is leaner and daily activity endurance is longer and easier to do.
Very inspiring site here Andrew. Keep it up! Sometimes others need these types of sites to keep them going as well.
Looking at the km’s you’ve run so far is outstanding. I don’t run but I cycle. I truly belive that intervals are a great way to keep up your fitness. They sure get the heart going and train other muscles that may not have been trained doing other types of exercises.
Keep running!
