Best Running Song Ever?
Enough said.
Enough said.
Shauna (Dietgirl) and Carla (Mizfit) published episode 11 of their “Two Fit Chicks and a Microphone” podcast today. The episode title is “Let’s Hear It For The Boys.” It’s all about men and blogging and they were particularly interested in why there appears to be fewer men than women participating in fitness/healthy living blogs.
I was lucky enough to be invited to participate and I think my contribution is enough to reinforce my opinion that I’ll never be a podcaster! Have a listen as I think it’s pretty interesting overall.
I listened to it while out on a run this morning. I did 15.4km on a bright sunny autumn morning and it was great!
In other news I’m changing my half marathon entry in the Christchurch Marathon to the full marathon!
Michelle over at Just trying to figure it all out did a great post on smiling the other day:
It may be 7am, you may be one of those cars stuck in traffic as I run by you, you might have a horrible day coming up, but the sight of a happy, bouncy, running person with two spotty trotting dogs beside her happily smiling as you go by is bound to make you smile too, whether you like it or not.
Thus, I have passed the smile on, and hopefully made your day a little bit better, if only for a second.
I’ve seen her once or twice and she does smile a lot.
But the part of her post that resonates is this:
What is nice is that the regular walkers see me coming, and are now ready with a big smile for me when I come running by. They know the drill, they know I am chirpy in the morning and will smile and say something to them, and so they prepare themselves with a big smile too, and a quick “Lovely morning today” or “I’ll catch up with you one day” response.
I’ve got my regulars too! And it’s great to give them a cheery smile and get that cheery smile back.
I ran into work with the Queen this morning. The Queen Mary 2 that is! Apparently it is the world’s biggest and most luxurious ocean liner and it’s in Auckland today.
The only photos that I could get of it were actually from quite far away:
You can see it on the right. It is huge when you compare it to the size of the city!
I ran out on this little (200 metre long) jetty to get that shot above:
I’d hoped to get a better photo once I got closer to the city but unfortunately the container terminal blocked the view! The QM2 is so big that it had to go berth at the container terminal rather than the passenger terminal.
Overall, it was quite nice to see glimpses of it but it was even nicer to be out for a run this morning. 14.3km and conditions were absolutely perfect for running.
I was listening to Burning 2010 this morning and one of the points Adam was making is that no matter where you live there are beautiful places to run. Well in my city that is the rule rather than the exception I think!
I love my running time but on most days I don’t want to just run. I want something to listen to as well. The sounds of my breathing puts my stride off or something. I’m not that keen on listening to music unless I want something quiet in the background while I ponder some problem or suchlike. Normally though, I listen to a podcast. I’ve just had a quick look in my itunes podcast directory and these are the podcasts I’m currently subscribed to:
Phedippidations is my favourite running podcast. Steve is a middle aged, back of the pack runner who talks about many interesting running topics such as famous runners, races, his training and other rambling diatribes.
Burning 2010 is a new podcast by the Zenrunner. This podcast is nominally about his aim to lose 20 pounds in 20 weeks this year but he talks about all sorts of weird and interesting stuff. The naked weigh-ins are not to be missed!
Two fit chicks and a microphone is hosted by everyone’s favourite Mizfit and Shauna the Amazing Dietgirl!
The Runners Round Table is where runners from around the world share tips, tell stories, and keep each other motivated. Sometimes this is great, sometimes it’s just good.
Running with Ghosts is another podcast about a runner but this one is following a lower carb lifestyle and doing crossfit.
4 Feet Running is a biweekly podcast with Nik and Dan! She’s a marathon runner training for her 6th. He’s a beginning runner who finished the C25K program and just ran his first half-marathon. I find it very entertaining.
Run Run Live is a podcast that I have loaded up but I haven’t actually listened to yet. Still working my way through the others! I have heard good things about it though.
WNYC’s Radio Lab is a science podcast that I absolutely love. They cover all sorts of interesting topics and I always feel smarter after listening to it.
I’ve also got a bunch of language lesson podcasts that I’m going to listen to (someday I’m sure) as I would like to learn a bit more Mandarin.
This morning I did a great 10.2K run in the Auckland Domain and I was listening to Two Fit Chicks and a Microphone.
I got caught in a very wet shower for about ten minutes but the sun came out and dried me off very quickly.
I did the 2009 Santa Run last night and it was great! The Santa run is a 3km fun run where all the participants dress in Santa suits. It was for charity so it was fun and also for a good cause.
Conditions were beautiful:
My wife and daughter came along to cheer me on which was very nice. My little girl loves seeing Santa from about 10 metres away. As soon as a santa gets close she gets scared so it was a bit traumatic to have Dad dressed up as Santa!
The run itself was fun and can be summed up in one word: “HOT!” It is summer here in the Southern Hemisphere.
All in all there were about 800 or so Santas so it was a very red event.
I even managed to get my photo into the local paper which resulted in a bit of notoriety at work! That’s me number 691!
It was a fantastic event and I was very happy that I did it. The atmosphere was wonderful as everyone was happy and the weather was great. We took heaps of photos which you can see here if you like.
