Weigh in: So close yet so far

If you're new here, you may want to get my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! I couldn't do this without the help of my commenters!

I quite like the look of my graph this week. Even though there was a rather significant birthday indulgence I still managed to lose a decent bit of weight overall.  I’m down .7 kgs (1.5 pounds) for the week.  I was really hoping to drop a further .7 of a pound as that would tick me over to 100 pounds lost.  If I was still going by scale weight I could do it but I’ve switched to using Physics Diet so I’ll wait till my “official” weight gets there.  Next week!

Weigh-in: Slow but steady

According to Physics Diet I’m down another .55 kilograms (1.2 pounds) this week. That brings my official weight to 95.25 kgs now.

My weight loss has been slowing a bit lately but truth be told I’ve been eating more as well. Now that I’ve started running longer distances I’ve found I’m a lot more hungry. I think its the running that is causing the increased hunger but it may be the fact that the temperatures have been dropping as we head into winter. I don’t think I’ve been going overboard with my eating and I’m still losing weight so I think things are under control.

Weigh-in

A slow week this week. Just down .41 kgs (about 1 pound) to my new offical weight of 95.75 kgs. As you can see from the red bit on the graph below I overindulged somewhat this weekend. Never mind, life still needs to be lived.

I went shopping for new pants on the weekend and I’m now a 36 inch waist. Not bad if you consider I was a 50 incher before.

I also nipped in to see the doctor as I still haven’t managed to shake this cold after about 4 weeks now. She reckons it’s not a cold but an allergic reaction to something so it’s just as well I went in.

Weigh-in Milestone

When I first started my weight loss and fitness journey I had this impossible dream of weighing 95 kilograms (210 pounds).

I set that goal as, in 2004, I used Atkins to get down to 100 kgs (220 pounds) for my wedding. I couldn’t get any lower than that so my goal of 95 kgs seemed like a dream. As you may have guessed I couldn’t sustain the Atkins way of eating and I gained most of the weight I lost back within 2 years of my wedding. Luckily I’ve since wised up and found a healthy lifestyle that I can live with.

Well, I’ve seen results under 95 kgs on the scale this week, which is simply incredible. It’s quite funny - since I’ve stopped focusing on the weight loss and more on the getting fit side of things I’ve lost more weight than ever before. If only I had woken up earlier!

Anyways, that is not my official weigh-in result for today.

The official result is: 96.16 kgs (according to physics diet) which means I’ve lost 1.16 kilograms since last week. I think the extra long runs must be responsible for it as that’s a rather large loss - but I’ll take it!

Weigh in

I weighed in at 97.28 kgs (214.5 pounds) this morning according to Physics Diet. That means I had a weekly loss of .91 kgs (just over 2 pounds) which I’ll gladly take.

I had a good week eatingwise and exercisewise except I had a bit too much bread on the weekend. I blame Metroknow for making me lust after bread with his great articles.

For those who missed it I had a great race over the weekend.

Weigh in: Time for a change

I weighed in at 97.8 kgs (216 pounds) this morning. That’s down 1.9 kgs from last week which is fairly meaningless as my weight fluctuated quite a lot on the day of my weigh in last week.

As such, I’ve decided I’m going to switch to displaying my Physics Diet weight. With the physics diet you weigh yourself everyday and it works out a moving average. I’ll still continue to report this once a week.

As such my weight is now officially 98.1 kgs which is down .5 kg from last week.
My average daily calorie deficit for the week was 674 calories and my BMI is 28.2.  You can see my public profile here if you are interested in taking a look.

Hopefully using the Physics Diet system will enable me to focus more on my weightloss trend rather than the specific number on the day of my weigh in.

As an aside I had something rather funny happen over the weekend. I put my ipod touch down on the roof of my car while I was putting some groceries in the boot and then drove off with it still on the roof. I was almost home before I remembered. Luckily for me I have stuck my ipod touch in a rubber sheath to protect it from being dropped and knocked about (I’m a little rough on electronic goods at times) and the rubber had gripped the car and it was still on the roof when I pulled over to check! Good on Apple for making low profile devices!

Weigh in

Whoo…today I weighed in at 99.7 kgs which is 2kgs heavier than I was on Friday morning.  Damn these weekends away where I indulge in snacks that cause my glycogen and water reserves to dramatically increase!  I’m not too worried as I was pretty good overall and I know there is no way I can gain 4.4 pounds of fat in two days.

I had a very good weekend away.  It was good to catch up with some old friends and great to see my daughter and their kids having a ball.

I also kept up with my running.  I did two runs (on Friday and Sunday) which I’ll post about once I find my camera.

I also picked up a nasty head cold.  I think it was due to being confined in the car with my daughter who has a cold (picked up from daycare) for quite a long time.  Oh well, such is life.  It means I’m at home in bed today.

Weigh-in & race results

Today I weighed in at 98 kgs (216) flat. That’s 1.7 kgs (3.75 pounds) down from last week. You may recall that last week I was a bit peeved that I lost only .1 kgs but I guess I was just experiencing a fluctuation on the day. That is one of the perils of weighing in daily.

I checked the official results of my race yesterday and laughed once I saw them. I finished 5th in my age group and 20th overall. Not bad for my second race! If only the leading pack could go the wrong way more often. In the future I will know not to follow them!

Weigh in: A loss is a loss

garlic naanWell I weighed in at 99.7 today. This is .1 kg down from last week. A loss is a loss I guess.

To tell the truth I’m not surprised as I had a bit too much food this weekend.

Saturday I had some friends around and we got a selection of Indian curries and some garlic naan bread for dinner. They were very nice but I ate more than I normally would for dinner. I also polished off the chocolate bar that Marshmallow gave me as a prize…sigh I’m weak.

Then Sunday evening I had a late dinner as I went to a baptism and celebratory dinner afterwards. I ate too much then as well but at least it was healthy food that I ate too much of.green beans

I pigged out on green beans with black bean sauce. Who would a thunk it? A few years ago I wouldn’t have touched green beans with a barge pole. Now I’m eating too many of them. Boy my life and habits have changed somewhat.

I’m going to have to learn better portion control in social situations. I’ve got a few weekends in a row coming up where I will be away from my normal routines so I will have to be careful. Social gatherings are nice but always problematic for us social eaters!

One of the reasons I have my weigh in day as Monday is that it is supposed to help me avoid overindulging over the weekend as I have the thought of reporting my weight on Monday morning in the back of my head. This strategy doesn’t always work!

Weigh in

Well, Monday is my official weekly weigh in day and I’m pleased to report my weight today was 99.8 kgs (220 pounds). That’s down .9 kgs (2 pounds) from last week.

The rule of thumb for weightloss is supposed to be about a pound a week. I’ve been doing about 2 a week lately and hopefully can keep that up. I’m expecting the weightloss to slow down somewhat as I get closer and closer to my goal but hopefully not yet! My goal at this point just relates to getting my bmi under 25. I don’t know how realistic it is but we’ll see. I may have to revisit it at some point.

I had a good weekend, mostly just spending quality time with my wife and daughter. My mother has been admitted to hospital and is awaiting surgery. Hopefully things will go well and she can get her operation done today. She keeps getting bumped for more urgent cases as the hospitals are pretty busy at the moment.

I went for a run along Tamaki Drive yesterday morning and it was pretty good. There was a woman’s duathlon on at the same time and I kept nervously looking over my shoulder looking for the pack as I was running on their course. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) our paths never crossed. It was a beautiful morning and it was great seeing heaps of runners and walkers out and about. There’s something about running before most people are out of bed that just makes you feel virtuous!

I did 5km in 30 minutes. I’m relatively happy with this kind of pace at this point. I’ve done a bit of reading and pushing for pace too early seems to be a common way of getting injured. If I want to do the half marathon later this year I need to avoid injuries. My reading also indicates that increased pace comes with increased distance so I should kill two birds with one stone this way.

This run was run 01 of week 04 of the One Hour Runner program.
